November’s Picks:

  • Mayu – $14
Pedro Ximenez – Elqui Valley, Chile
From a single vineyard of old vines at over 6,000 ft in elevation – one of the highest in Chile! A unique grape traditionally used to make Pisco, a Chilean liquor, vinified here to dryness. Floral aromatics, zippy cistrus fruits, and a minerally backbone.

  • Valflaunes “Par Hasard” – $18
Syrah, Mouvedre, Grenache – Pic Saint Loup, France
A dry, slightly more robust rosé from Languedoc-Roussillon in the south of France. Notes of orange zest, wild strawberries, mango, and white pepper. Excellent for drinking on sunny, crisp fall afternoons and a perfect match for turkey with all the fixin’s.

  • Ca N’estruc – $13
    Grenache, Syrah – Catalunya, Spain
From a small, old estate 165 meters up in the Montserrat mountains not far from Barcelona. Reminiscent of a tasty Cotes du Rhone, there’s uicy black cherry, spicecake, and hints of peppery violets in this fantastically food friendly red. Try it with roast pork, grilled sausages, or friends and fun conversation.

  • Alovini “Sterparo” – $15
    Primitivo – Basilicata, Italy
Primitivo is the Italian cousin to Zinfandel, and delivers a similar puch of dark fruit and spice – with a bit of Italian rusticity. It’s grown in the hot, Mediterranean climate of southern Italy, and the volcanic soils of Basilicata (in the “arch” of the boot) lend a smoky earthiness. This ripe red is loaded with black cherry, dried fig, bitter dark chocolate, and hints of dried rose petals. A wonderful match for hearty meals and sauces.
